Acorn Academy Teacher Profile

My History
My name is Alison Adams and although I was born as a Georgia Peach, I spent most of my growing up days in Twin Falls, Idaho.  I moved to Ogden, Utah in 2000 to attend college and met my husband shortly after.    I have been married for six years and have three happy and beautiful little children.  We love being together as a family.  These are a few of our favorite things:   going to  grandma and grandpa’s cabin, taking walks, making pancakes, reading books, watching movies, riding bikes, and family night.  Our children teach and remind us of the real joys of life.

My Philosophy
In an early childhood program, I believe that the child is the center of all that is developed and all that is happening.   It is my goal to provide a healthy and secure learning environment where I can nurture each child’s physical, social-emotional, cognitive and creative growth.  This will include developing each child’s self-awareness, fostering independence, meeting the individual and group needs of the children and working in cooperation with the parents.  I also believe that each child is unique and has their own way of learning and functioning.  Therefore, it is important to provide a variety of experiences throughout each day to promote daily learning and growth.  Here in our preschool, your child will develop the skills necessary to prepare them for their kindergarten experience.

My Education
I received my associate degree in Early Childhood Education at the College of Southern Idaho, where I was a mentor and tutor to other students in the program.  I graduated Cum Laude from Weber State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood  and Elementary Education.  In 2005, I received my ESL Endorsement through Northern Utah Curriculum Consortium (NUCC).   I currently hold a Level 2 Teaching License in the State of Utah.

My Teaching Experience
I taught preschool for 2 years at the College of S. Idaho,  where I planned and implemented lesson plans, interacted and communicated with parents and assessed the development of children.

I was the Director of a Preschool Center for 2 years where I supervised teachers and provided training in developmental stages of learning, behavior management nutrition, learning centers and First Aid and CPR.

I have spent the past 4 years teaching Kindergarten in the Ogden City School District. During this time I was able to engage my students in learning and keep them on task.  By  setting routines, holding high expectations, implementing a creative curriculum and providing individual and small group intervention strategies, I was able to bring each of my students to an “at grade Level or above” on the end of level assessments.
