“It is not what is poured into a child, but what is planted”

At the time of registration, September’s tuition and a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee is due.  Tuition is due on the first of each month and can be paid by cash or check.  Please make checks out to Alison Adams.  No Reminders will be given.   There will be a $10.00 late fee charged to your account if it is not received by the 1st .  Your child will not be allowed to attend class and his/her spot will be replaced if your account is not paid by the 15th of the month.  There will also be a $20.00 service charge for all checks returned for insufficient funds.  Cash only will  be accepted if your check is returned more than once.  No refunds will be given for missed school days.  Your child will receive the materials missed upon returning to class.  Acorn Academy reserves the right to cancel class should an emergency arise.

Our school schedule will follow the same calendar as Davis County School District.  Please check out our Calendar for additional information.

Drop off/Pick up:

Students may arrive up to 10 minutes before their class begins and must be picked up no later than 10 min. after class.  Please do not drop off your child before this time.  Please walk your child to the door to ensure that they get into the building safely.  If you are past 10 minutes the following charges will be added to your account.  11-15 minutes late:  $10.00; 16-20 minutes late $15.00; 21-30 minutes late $30.00.  If your child needs to be picked up early, please let me know ahead of time and I will have them ready.  Remember:  Only those listed on your pick up list will be authorized to take your child home.  Please be aware that if someone else picks up your child that they should also have the proper child restraint.  The new Utah law states that all children up to 8 years of age be in a booster seat.

Student Age:

Students enrolled in the 3 year old class must be 3 yrs of age on or before August 30th 2009.  Students enrolled in this class must be toilet trained.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 292-1501.

Students enrolled in the 4-5 year old class must be 4 years of age on or before August 31st 2009.  These students will  follow a more detailed introduction in curriculum to prepare them for kindergarten requirements.  These students will also be attending kindergarten during the 2010-2011 school year.  If you have a child with a late birthday and are considering enrolling them the following year, please enroll them in  the 3-4 class.

Withdrawal of a Student:

A two week notice is required to withdraw a student from class in order to receive your reimbursement.  Otherwise, reimbursement is forfeited.  Withdrawal because of behavioral or other problems  will be made only following a conference with the parents and a discussion of the child’s needs.

Sick Children:

Please keep any child who is not feeling well at home.  Remember that any child vomiting or having diarrhea must be kept at home until symptoms have subsided for a 24 hour period.  Please do not send your child if he/she is running a fever over 99.9.  This is to protect your child as well as other children in the class.  Our goal is to prevent the spread of infectionJ

Immunizations:

Every child attending Acorn Academy is required to be current on their immunizations.  A copy of your child’s current immunization record is due at registration.  It is also required that each child receive any necessary immunizations during their preschool year.  This will help to lower the risks of infections spread and help keep everyone healthy.

Dress:

Please dress your child in appropriate clothing for the season.  However, remember that preschool time is a time for fun and learning and that they may get messy.  Please take into consideration clothes that are easy to pull up/down for bathroom use, to foster independence in this area.  Please inform me of any clothing that may interfere with independent bathroom use.

Bathroom Use:

Please have your child use the bathroom before school starts. (before leaving home, or after signing in).   It is very important that your child is able to use the bathroom by his/her self.  This means using the toilet, wiping, flushing, and hand washing.  It is important that boys be able to aim correctly into the toilet so other children are not exposed to urine messes.  Should your child have an accident, you will be notified immediately to come and help them change.  I will not be able to help your child in the bathroom.

Behavior Management:

All children respond and act differently to frustration and confrontation.  This is also an age where they are learning appropriate ways to communicate with others when problem solving.  At Acorn Academy, we will practice positive ways in which children can deal with a variety of situations that may arise.  Students will be required to follow simple directions, exhibit self control, respond to commands, resolve conflict and give praise.

We have 3 simple rules:

          Follow directions the 1st time

          Be an active listener

          Be kind

Should a child need guidance with a behavior, I will state the misbehavior and remind the child of the desired behavior.  The child can then make one of two choices-follow the desired behavior or take some time to think about it.   Should the behavior escalate to a point of harming others, he/she will be removed from the situation and the teacher and student will process together how we can resolve the situation.  Changing the behavior will be guided by the teacher but left up to the student to decide when he/she is ready to return to the activity.

Supplies:

Supplies needed for the school year will be provided.  Occasionally I may ask for small donations of recyclable items such as toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, film canisters, baby food jars, cereal boxes, etc.

**Please send your child with a book bag to put papers and projects in each day.

Family Activities:

During the year we will have 2 Family Activities.  The first is our Fall Festival, held in October and the second is our Graduation Breakfast, held in may.  This is a time to get to know and connect with the other families in our school and celebrate the students accomplishments.

Birthdays:

Each child is special and unique and will be given the opportunity to celebrate their birthday.  If it is during the school year, they will celebrate on the closest day to their birthday.  If it is a summer birthday, it will be celebrated in the month closest to the school year.  (i.e. July 15th-August in September and June-July 14th in May.  Each child will receive a birthday surprise at school.  If your child would like to share a birthday treat, please bring a non-food item.  (small bouncy ball, stickers, pencils, or other small items)

Communication:

Meeting  the needs of your child is important.  Working together as parents and teachers is the best way to do this.   Please feel free to talk to me about any issues concerning your child.  You may call me between 8:00-9:00 a.m. or between 1:00-9:00 p.m.  You may also e-mail me at alimhaney@hotmail.com.

I have read and understand the policies outlined above.  If any of the above policies are not followed, Alison Adams reserves the right to cancel your child’s preschool service.

Snack:

Snack will be provided for your child each day by either myself, or a student in the class.  One day a week, snack will be provided by a student.  All other days will be provided by Acorn Academy.  This means that once every 8 weeks, you will be asked to bring a snack to share with the other students.  A snack schedule will be sent out at the start of school.  Some examples of snacks are:  apples and cheese, carrots and celery, graham crackers and bananas, cheese sticks and animal crackers. A favorite last year was bagels and cream cheese!   Feel free to be creative and healthy!

The Giving Tree:

This year I will be posting a giving tree with apples on it in the classroom.  Each apple will have an item of “want” for our preschool room.  Please feel free to take a look and pick an item to donate to Acorn Academy.  Please do not feel obligated to participate in this.  If you have further questions about this, please feel free to call me or visit after class one day.  Thanks for supporting us!
